Dance Academy

The ANMBF Dance Academy provides beginning, intermediate, and advanced training in Ballet Folklorico for children and adults for a nominal fee.  Academy curriculum also includes a ballet course for toddlers aged 3 to 6 years old, and Zumba fitness classes for teens and adults.  Beginners focus on basic elements of rhythm, posture, etiquette, and discipline. After mastering these skills, the students move on to learn advanced choreography, skirt movements, and turns.  Advanced and exceptionally talented students audition for ANMBF's Children's Ensemble and Junior Company.

Children develop strong relationships and build trust through weekly interaction with professional dance instructors.  Children benefit from this personalized, one-on-one attention and encouragement from dance instructors.  The Dance Academy encourages involvement of parents in students' lives, reduces students' isolation anxiety, builds trust through interaction with instructors, fosters students' interests in new subjects, and provides students with customized instruction.  These invaluable benefits increase the likelihood that youth graduate from high school and become productive self sufficient residents of the community.

All classes at the ANMBF Academy are taught by members of the ANMBF Professional Company and/or Artistic Staff.  All classes are audited on monthly basis to ensure the highest level of educational value and to ensure high quality.

Folklorico Fact!

Veracruz (east)- The Spanish influence in this eastern coast state is stark, as it was in early Tejas when Spaniards were issued large land grants as rewards. It was and still is an important trading port. The Spanish costume shows the white guayabera pants and shirts and red waist sash and straw hat. The women wear imported white lace dresses; their hair up in buns in a comb and shawls, or rebozos, accompanied by fans. The style of dance: bambas, and huapangos, which are greatly influenced by flamenco steps. The music is mostly acoustical, violin and harp, which were influenced during the conquest and also penetrated by elements of the Arab, African, German, Dutch, and other European cultures.
