ANMBF’s Outreach Programs serve as an intervention program in low-income, urban, predominantly Hispanic communities in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.

Through dance, the Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico transports students to Mexico: its history, its culture and its richness. This interactive, on campus show presents dances, costumes, music, art and folklore from the regions of Sinaola, Chiapas, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacan, Puebla, Nayarit and Veracruz, Mexico. Through entertaining bilingual lectures and dance performances, this 30-45 minute show promises to be a show stopper!

Students will:
• Experience the renowned Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico Professional Dance Company perform.
• Learn how the Mexican culture influences American culture.
• Learn through the art of dance, the effects of other cultures on the history and traditions of Mexico.

Traditions of Mexico is an interactive dance class that teaches students the art of Ballet Folklorico. The instructor will choreograph one or two dance routines (depending on time constraints and the children’s capacity) and teach the children the unique history/story behind each dance.

Students will:
• Develop coordination, stamina, flexibility and strength with complex footwork.
• Learn basic Spanish vocabulary as it relates to dance and the Mexican culture.
• Learn specialized Ballet Folklorico dance techniques from ANMBF Professional Company dancers.
• Engage in entertaining and challenging physical activity.
• Learn about various states of Mexico; their native dances, geography, traditions and folklore.

ANMBF’s theatrical productions embrace dances from the states of Mexico and Latin American countries. The audience will get to experience the evolution of Hispanic dance, from Mayan tribal dance to the vibrant flare of popular folklorico favorites. These performances are be entertaining and educational for all ages celebrating the rich Hispanic dance & culture! The program is enhanced through our teacher educational packet, which includes detailed information and activities about the history of the dances as well as their cultural origin. The information packet can easily be used for future educational and arts projects.

Students Will:

• Celebrate the richness of Hispanic Heritage through dance.
• Learn through the art of dance the effects history had on movement and music.
• Learn the effects of Hispanic culture on America today.
• Receive information and activities prior to performance in order to enhance performance.
• Live the theatrical experience at the Latino Cultural Center and the Winspear Opera House.
